My Musical Journey Beyond KEYS

My name is Gabriel, and I graduated from KEYS in 2023. Since then, music has continued to be an important part of my life. I’m now studying music at the University of Bridgeport, where I have the opportunity to continue learning, developing my skills, and exploring my passion for music. My journey with music didn’t end when I graduated from KEYS. Instead, it opened the door to new opportunities and experiences that have helped me grow both as a musician and as a person. Being able to study music at the university level has allowed me to continue building on what I learned at KEYS while discovering more about myself and my musical interests. Music gives me the opportunity to keep challenging myself and learning new things. As part of my studies at the University of Bridgeport, I’ve continued exploring different instruments and ways of making music. In the photo, I’m on campus practising the steel pan, another opportunity to develop my musical abilities and experience a different side of music. Every opportunity to practise and learn helps me grow, and I’m excited to keep building my knowledge and confidence as a musician. I’ve also continued taking piano and violin lessons through KEYS. Having the opportunity to keep learning from my teachers after graduating has been meaningful to me. Continuing these lessons allows me to strengthen my skills and stay connected to the musical education that helped shape my journey. I’m grateful that KEYS continues to support me as I pursue my interests and work toward my goals. Another important part of my experience with KEYS has been the opportunity to gain professional experience through its summer music program. For the past two summers, I’ve worked as a paid intern with the KEYS summer music program. This has given me the opportunity to remain involved with the organisation while gaining valuable work experience. Being part of the program in a different capacity has also allowed me to continue learning beyond the classroom and develop personally and professionally. I appreciate that KEYS continues to support its graduates in different ways, even after they have completed their time in the program. Whether through ongoing instrument lessons or internship opportunities, this support makes it possible for students like me to continue pursuing music while gaining new experiences along the way. Looking back, I’m proud of how far I’ve come since graduating from KEYS in 2023. I know there is still so much more to learn, and I’m looking forward to continuing my musical journey at the University of Bridgeport and beyond. The opportunities I’ve had through KEYS have helped me keep moving forward, and I’m grateful to have that continued connection as I work toward my future. For me, music is an ongoing journey of learning, practising, and growing. I’m excited to see where it takes me next!
