My Journey with KEYS: Keeping Music in My Life

My Journey with KEYS: Keeping Music in My Life

My name is Nataly, and I’m a KEYS graduate currently finishing my freshman year at the University of Hartford. College has been an exciting experience, with new things to learn, new responsibilities, and a busy schedule. Even with everything going on, I’ve wanted to make sure that music continues to be a part of my life. I started learning music through KEYS, and my violin lessons have become something I really value. Although I’m now away at college, I didn’t want to stop learning just because my routine had changed. That’s why I’ve continued taking violin lessons with my KEYS teacher, Amy Selig. It’s been wonderful to keep learning from her while adjusting to college life. Of course, finding time for music alongside classes, assignments, and studying isn’t always easy. College keeps me busy, and I have to plan my time carefully. I also needed a quiet, suitable place where I could attend my lessons. Fortunately, I received special permission to reserve a music practice room on the University of Hartford campus. Having that space has made it much easier for me to continue my lessons without having to worry about where I can practise or learn. One of the things I’m especially grateful for is the opportunity to take my lessons virtually. Even though I’m studying at a different institution and can’t attend lessons in person at KEYS, I can still connect with Amy and continue working on my violin. It’s reassuring to know that I don’t have to put my musical learning on hold simply because I’ve moved on to college. For me, continuing my lessons is a way to hold on to something I enjoy while exploring new opportunities. College is a big change, and there are many things to balance, but having music in my routine gives me something familiar to look forward to. I can focus on my studies while still making time to learn, practise, and improve as a musician. I’m really glad that KEYS offers virtual lessons because they make it possible for students like me to continue learning even after graduating from the program. I’m grateful to Amy for continuing to teach me and to KEYS for helping me stay connected to music while I pursue my education. As I finish my freshman year at the University of Hartford, I’m happy that my musical journey is still continuing. Graduating from KEYS didn’t mean that my violin lessons had to end. With virtual teaching, I can keep learning from wherever I am. It’s a reminder that even when life gets busy and circumstances change, there can still be room for the things we love.
